Condylomata acuminata, as they are formally called, are mainly sexually transmitted, but they can also be transmitted through direct skin contact.
They are caused by the Human Papillomavirus (HPV).
Condylomas have various forms. They can look like skin moles, form plaques, be transparent, red or bright brown. They do not cause any particular discomfort, only an itching or light burning sensation.
In women, they mostly appear in the vulva and anal area, but also in the creases between the thigh and the groin.
Respectively, in men, they appear on the penis, scrotum, around the anus and in the creases between the thigh and the groin.
They are considered responsible for the development of anal carcinoma in cases where they have remained for a long time near the anus.
Removal with Super Pulse CO2 Laser and Radiofrequencies (RF) offers an effective, painless treatment with excellent aesthetic results.
An examination inside the anus by a specialized doctor (surgeon) is particularly important for the detection of condylomas in the inner area as well, so that these can also be removed in order to not constitute continuous source of recurrences for the disease.
1-2% of the condylomas can be caused by the common warts virus.
Their treatment is particularly successful thanks to the use of CO2 LASER and radiofrequencies (RF) with local anaesthesia. The examination should be repeated every month to eliminate possible remaining lesions, but also lesions that had been previously “incubating”.
As incubation time varies from 1 to 8 months, it is considered that the disease is cured if no lesion appears for 8 months.
